SCARCE 140 YEAR OLD GERMAN AMATEUR ASTRONOMY MAGAZINE WITH ILLUSTRATIONS A BOUND YEAR OF SIRIUS MAGAZINE 1883 Includes 12 Plates including drawings of the egress of the 1882 Transit of Venus by Vogel and Langley; Several plates of telescopes and observatories; drawings of the moon and comets Description: Dr. Hermann Klein, editor: SIRIUS: Zeitschrift für Populäre Astronomie, V 16, 12 monthly issues, Leipzig. 1883; Pages numbered from 1-285. 12 full page plates, including two foldouts of  telescopes (see photos). A few charts, mostly of positions of the Jovian or Saturnian Moons. Condition: Hardbound in quarter leather over pebbled boards. Ex lib with the usual plates, cards and stamps. Black tape at bottom of spine with call number sticker. Scuffing to hinges and small loss of leather at the top of the spine. Only slight wear at extremities of cover. Interior is clean, tightly bound, and unmarked throughout with crisp page edges and all 12 plates in good condition. Overall VG+. Information: An informative and unusual old compilation of popular astronomy articles from Germany, in German, with some seldom-seen illustrations.  Articles about lunar features, the transit of Venus in 1883, comets, star clusters, observatories (Washburn observatory in Madison, Wisconsin and Henry Draper's observatory in Hastings-on-Hudson), photography and spectroscopy, the makeup of the sun, etc..
